Instant Karma 7 course beer dinner

Recently had the pleasure of working with the one and only Jason Miller, Feast Magazine's recently named "Chef Of The Year". Jason had long been planning one one of his famous multiple course gourmet dinners and wanted it well documented on this round.

This time was a collaboration with O'Fallon Brewing company out of St Louis, who provided a beautiful sampling of outstanding brews to accompany Jason's culinary delights. 7 courses, 7 beers.

The night was a unique experience for me. I'm used to capturing the candid moments of events, and I've photographed food for tourism & restaurant marketing for a long time. But this event combined those two things. It was document the folks enjoying the evening, dart back to the kitchen to show the chefs prepping the next course, bring a sampling of said course over to my lighting setup and get a great capture of it, back to the candids. Repeat 7 times...

In the end, I really enjoyed it- the fast pace and varied settings was a good challenge for me.  The best part was not only photographing each course, but tasting them as well.

Food can be art as much as anything else. The best food disappears the fastest- which is why I'm glad to be there to photograph it before it does.

Here's a quick visual rundown of each of the 7 courses:

The rest of the post goes back and forth between various elements of the evening. Thanks to Instant Karma & O'Fallon Brewing for inviting me out for the night!
